Red Onion

So, FK has been uber-excited at the opening of the Red Onion in Lake Havasu. It's a sandwich shop right on the main drag that looks like it could be in a normal city. So Friday, FK waddled (ok drove) downtown and went in. FK wanted to like Red Onion a lot. Fk tried and tried. And FK failed. There was a 5 minute wait with nowhere to stand. The hostess and servers seemed to be in panic mode for a normal lunch crowd. The menu is predominantly breakfast based (a minus for FK) with a couple sandwiches and salads. Every salad ran right around $9, which isn't bad for high quality, creative salads. Something this salad was not.

The lettuce was iceberg from a bag. The salami was not especially high end and the kitchen seemed to make up for this by putting tons on the salad. The olives were clearly canned and the feta mass produced. The salad tried and if made at home, FK would have been extremely satisfied. But it wasn't at home. It was at an overpriced, unenjoyable restaurant. The kicker was the service. The waitress was harried, fine. But she kept yelling at customers...repeatedly. When FK was paying at the cashier, she ran into me full force, knocking me to the side.
End result: Lame and not worth the effort or money.
